Jaisalmer Camel Safari T he fascinating Thar Desert is best explored on a Jaisalmer camel safari. A two-day excursion takes in historic sights and villages of sheep and camel herders. An overnight stay in the desert offers magical dawn and sunset views amid the dunes. After doing a lot of research on tour operators for the Jaisalmer camel safari, we decided to try Arya Tours. We had read terrible reviews for some of the big tour operators in the area while Arya Tours, a smaller private operator, had some of the best reviews. We went on a Jaisalmer camel safari in the Thar Desert for two days and one night. We thought that any more than two days on a camel would be painfully difficult and not enjoyable if we had sore butts. Day 1 of our Jaisalmer Camel Safari We were picked up from our hotel by Om, the owner of Arya Tours, in a car at 8am in the morning. We drove for about an hour out of town to a nearby village to see how the villagers lived in their mud house

Jaisalmer, Sandstone City I arrived in Jaisalmer in mid July 2016 during the peak of the sweltering, dry hot season. Beneath the cloud of stagnant heat I discover a beautiful city. With  a large fort looking over the bustling market, the charms of this city are undeniable. The stunning sandstone carving that decorate the outside of houses and temples is the signature of this cities beauty. On arrival I found myself at a lovely haveli ( guesthouse/ small hotel) called Arya Haveli. After the long train trip from Delhi it was a relief to make myself comfortable in my charming room. After a nice long nap I went to sit in the hotel’s cafe for a cup of chai and a chat with some fellow travelers. The owner Om is a very friendly local guy with a passion for music. He was delighted to share an array of his favorite songs ranging from Indian and Rajasthani classical to Goa trans, Asian-fusion, dub-step and electronica. I had such a wonderful first night. I woke up early
